Making The Most of Pinterest For Your Business

Making The Most of Pinterest For Your Business
This entry is part 7 of 7 in the series Social Media God's Way

So we’ve reached the end of this series and to wrap things up, today I am talking about Pinterest. Pinterest, which was launched in January 2010, has become another major platform driving businesses today.

Pinterest, like Google and YouTube, is also a search engine, and businesses have been able to use this to drive traffic back to their sites. Today I’m sharing with you eight (8) tips that will make the most out of your Pinterest account.

Business Account

Like all the other platforms I’ve talked about, Pinterest allows users to either make a personal account or business account. It’s usually best to create a business account, so you can benefit from the extra features such as your analytics or running ads or promotions.

When you’re setting up your Pinterest account, be sure to include your website so that others can find out more about your business. To do this, go to your settings in Pinterest and under the “Claim” section, enter your URL and hit claim. Then just follow the instructions given.

Bonus tip: while we’re on the subject of your website, whenever you create a pin, make sure to include a link to your website or blog with each new pin.

Cohesive Boards

Like Instagram, Pinterest is a highly visual platform, so you’ll want to create boards that are in line with your branding and your industry. Don’t be afraid to humanize your brand by creating boards that are a little more personal. You can do this by creating boards with products, brands, or even causes you love and support.

Vertical Images

If you’ve been on Pinterest for a while, you’ll notice there are not many horizontal images. Pinterest loves vertical images. Vertical images appear bigger, which makes it more likely for users to click on them: therefore, increasing the performance of the pin.

Pin It Button

For every graphic or image on your website or blog, make sure to use a “pin it” button to make it easy for your fans to save your stuff and come back to it again later. There are plenty of plugins that you can install on your site to create the “pin it” button.

Make sure all of your blog posts have a pinnable graphic. Multiple graphics on one blog post can help as well and increases the chances of that post being seen.

Videos

Did you know you can pin videos as well? Pinterest is not just for images. You can pin videos and watch them directly on the platform. This is great for businesses who use both YouTube and Pinterest in their social media strategy.

Group Boards

One of the great things about Pinterest is the group boards. Joining group boards makes it easier to reach more people and have more of your pins seen and shared. You can join groups boards that are in line with your industry and interests, or you can create your own group. When you join a group, be sure to read and be respectful of the group rules.

Tailwind

I can’t talk about Pinterest without at least mentioning Tailwind. Tailwind is an amazing tool that helps you automate your Pinterest account. Unlike most of the other platforms, Pinterest is one that likes it when you pin multiple times a day. But when you’re busy running an entire company you don’t have time to pin multiple images/videos a day.

This is where Tailwind comes in. With a Tailwind account, you can plan and schedule months worth of pins at one time and Tailwind will post it to your assigned board(s) at the scheduled time. You can even schedule posts to group boards using Tailwind (assuming it doesn’t go against that group’s rules).

Be Original

It’s okay to share things that you have found online, but people love originality. Creating your own images are a great way to build authenticity, and your fans know that when they visit your boards, they’re likely going to find something they haven’t seen before. Original images can also earn you a spot on the Popular Section of Pinterest. The Popular Section is where you’ll find unique and original images. Earning a spot in this section will also draw a huge crowd to your boards.

Conclusion

These are my eight tips for making the most of your Pinterest account. As I’ve said throughout this series, always be sure to consult with Holy Spirit first on what strategies He wants you to use or what advice is acceptable for your business. Just because I’ve shared these tips with you doesn’t mean this is the strategy Holy Spirit will lead you to use. Be prayerful and follow His lead.

Now for the question of the day: what tip did you find most helpful and are there any other Pinterest tips you would include in this list? Leave me a comment below!

To your success!
